Help nonprofits go solar with SRP

Want to help your favorite nonprofit dedicate more of their money to key initiatives in your community? Donating to the SRP Solar for Nonprofits™ program helps organizations install solar-covered parking structures that help them save on energy costs, freeing up more money for their mission. To date, the program has saved recipient organizations more than $1.2 million.*

Customers have four easy ways to contribute to SRP Solar for Nonprofits:

  1. Sign up via SRP My Account™ to donate $3 monthly.
  2. Email [email protected] with your name, address, phone number and SRP account number.
  3. Call (602) 236-8888 anytime 24/7 to enroll. 4. Make a one-time donation at srp.net/sfnp.

SRP is now accepting applications from Valley nonprofits interested in the program. Organizations need to be a designated 501(c)(3) and be an SRP customer with a location that provides services within our service territory. For full details and to apply, visit srp.net/sfnp.

Reasons to skip overseeding your lawn this fall and winter

When it comes to planning your lawn, less is more. Not planting winter ryegrass has several benefits, including:

Less time: There’s no need to scalp your lawn, prepare the seedbed, seed, water or mow.

Less water: More than 8,000 gallons of water is needed for every 1,000 square feet of winter ryegrass planted.* Dormant Bermuda grass needs to be watered only once a month from November to February — even less if we get winter rain.

Less expense: Wastewater rates are often determined by your winter water usage. So if you use more water in the winter, your wastewater rate may be higher throughout the rest of the year.

Prevention is key to a fire-safe home

October is National Fire Prevention Month. SRP wants all of our customers to be wary of fire dangers around their home. Here are a few tips to keep you and your loved ones safe:

  • DON’T overload electrical cords: While extension cords and multi-outlet splitters seem convenient, many cords don’t have overcurrent protection. A standard home-use extension cord is usually rated around 13 amps. When plugged into a 20-amp circuit with several appliances being used at once, that cord could be overloaded without the circuit breaker ever tripping.*
  • DO examine cords for frayed and broken ends: Constant use and time can lead to cracking and exposed wiring. Damaged cords should always be replaced and never patched with electrical tape.
  • DO keep smoke alarms in good working condition: It’s a good idea to regularly check all the units in your home to make sure they are clean and the batteries are still good. Alarms that are nearing or past 10 years from the date of manufacture should be replaced.

Winter prices start next month

November means cooler weather, Thanksgiving and the start of the winter pricing cycle for SRP residential customers. In general, that means lower prices per kilowatt-hour, particularly for time-of-day plans with off-peak and super off-peak hours. You can see the hourly cost on your bill or by logging in to SRP My Account™.

With a seasonal rate change, all energy usage on your bill is charged at the rate in effect on your meter read date. So if your meter is read on or after Nov. 1, all usage included on that bill is billed at the winter rate, even though some of that usage occurred in October.
